Your phone's battery quietly loses capacity every month, but Android rarely tells you by how much. This guide explains what battery health actually is, how to check it, and what the numbers — capacity, charge cycles, wear and charging watts — really mean, so you can tell a healthy battery from one that's on its way out.
Battery health is a simple ratio: your battery's current full-charge capacity divided by its original design capacity, shown as a percentage. A phone that shipped with a 5,000 mAh battery but now only holds 4,300 mAh at a full charge is at about 86% health. That missing capacity is why an older phone needs charging earlier in the day even though your usage hasn't changed.

There's no hard cliff — an 82% battery still works fine, it just won't last as long between charges. Manufacturers generally consider 80% the end of a battery's "rated" life.
A charge cycle is one full 0–100% worth of charging — but it doesn't have to happen in one go. Charging from 50% to 100% today and 50% to 100% tomorrow counts as one cycle, not two. Most modern lithium-ion phone batteries are rated to keep roughly 80% of their capacity after 500–800 cycles.
Charging power in watts is just voltage × current. A charger advertised as "30W" won't always deliver 30W to your battery. A worn cable, an underpowered adapter, a nearly-full battery, or a hot phone will all throttle the real number down.
Seeing the live watts while charging — and running a quick charger speed test — lets you compare cables and adapters and find the combination that actually charges your phone fastest.
